Department of Realistic Media Engineering holds SWISS XR Week with Swiss Embassy
The SWISS XR Week: Converging Metaverses & AI in the Media Space workshop, co-hosted by the Department of Realistic Media Engineering (Professor Ryu Eun-seok) and the Swiss Embassy, was held at the International Hall of the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus on September 5 (Tue).
This workshop was organized for exchange and cooperation related to XR (eXtended Reality) technology as part of technological exchanges between the two countries to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Switzerland. On the Swiss side, 14 experts from the Lausanne Federal University of Technology (EPFL) and the Zurich Federal University of Technology (ETH) visited Korea, and professors and graduate students from our university participated online and offline.
The seminar was largely divided into research and media art, innovation and technology transfer, and industry cases as follows.

○ ○ Hyun Ju Kim(Seoul Media Institute of Technology) – Introducing MIVA: A Media Art Practice in Korea using Metaverse & Digital Human
○ ○ Jason Kim (Salin) – Promoting Inclusive Cultural Experience through XR
○ ○ Yun Geuk Kang(Sejong University) – Innovative Changes in Media Production Environment
○ ○ Mounir Krichane(Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne) – IMI: Connecting Academia and Media to Drive Innovation
A department official said, "This workshop was an opportunity to share technical and industrial progress of universities, companies, and research organizations in the two countries under the joint theme of future multimedia XR technology." In addition, Ryu Eun-seok, head of the department, discussed future cooperation on technology exchange and student dispatch between the media research institutes of Swiss ETH and EPFL and the department of realistic media engineering.
